The Colon and Your Health

January 21st, 2010

One of the largest contributors to disease and illness is a sluggish colon. The colon is responsible for eliminating waste products from the body. If you’re not getting one bowel movement each day, it would be advised to work on regaining regularity for your health and weight management. There are several things you can do to bring around your constipation:

Laxative herbs. The herbs senna and cascara sagrada are the chemical ingredient of many over the counter laxative products. For instance, Ex-Lax, is merely a small amount of the herb senna hidden in tasty chocolate. Between the two herbs, senna will tend to give you occasional cramps. If you intend to supplement with an herbal laxative long-term, select cascara sagrada. Both of these herbs can be bought in capsules or tablets. Take them at nighttime if you wish a morning bowel movement.

Colonics. The colonic irrigation is a more involved version of the enema, given by a certified practitioner, in which water is flushed in and out of your colon repeatedly. A colonic irrigation will give your colon a therapeutic cleansing and will improve the muscle in your colon. Colonics should be done at the very most once every month.

Enemas. If what you want is prompt relief from constipation, enemas are the most ideal method. You can buy an enema bag or a packaged Fleet enema. Both are safe to employ on a periodic basis, but you should not exceed one time each week.
