Splitsville Talk: Bowling Makes it Big
August 15th, 2009The numbers incidate bowling has become an exceptionally lucrative game. It may be no surprise the growth in the sport fueled innovation in bowling supplies from shoes to balls and bowling bags. So many bowlers have taken to our hearts, and are household names, like the PBA heros everyone trumpets like Norm Duke, among the all-time bowling money leaders. More popular American bowlers include “The Dude” and President Barack Obama.
Given the rapid growth in bowling nationwide and leaps in reactive bowling balls, the sport is more about supplies than before. And these days you’ll see there is a lot more to professional bowling shoes than awkward, uncomfortable sizes. Modern bowling ball construction and lane conditioning has bowling balls taking curves on their own, lowering the necessary talent needed from the bowler to build awesome pin action from power and rotation. Straighter players with fewer curving action can build plenty of force using the right supplies like fitted bowling shoes to knock over 10 pins with amazing regularity, lowering the bar for everyone. Surprisingly, building high rotation on the bowling ball isn’t necessary.
Despite buying the right bowling balls, comfy bowling shoes and a custom bowling ball bag, a bowler will have to practice a lot. Experiment before you discover the approach which gets you results. Listen to these tips from yours truly.
Most obviously, just roll it straight before you have a sense for delivery. As you’re getting the hang of it, try out a three-step, four-step and a five-step delivery. This should rest upon your stride and the line you start from. Also remember, do not push off the bowling ball until after it has passed your planted leg. If you do this, the ball should land smoothly out on the alley bed allowing for better direction. Last but not least, enjoy your bowling match. Don’t be afraid to go to your neighborhood bowling center to start bowling strikes.
