This strategy is meant to intimidate the other online poker players, making them afraid to ever enter a pot with a bully present. That is why the bullies can gain and maintain control over the table. But just because there are bullies pushing everyone off the pots, does not mean you should always avoid any entanglement with them.
The bully strategy has one glaring, fundamental flaw - by betting and raising so often, they are playing more hands than mathematical percentages indicate are correct. It is impossible to bet and raise so many hands without losing some. This type of player is a good opportunity to practice selectivity.
Play a solid tight game against them. When you get a hand, watch for an opportunistic move on the bully’s part. Call them down with your hand, then raise on the river when you think you have them beat. Many bullies will lay down their hand if you bet the flop or turn because these players are good enough to know when they are beat.
When facing a bully, don’t bet into them too much but instead make the calls to their bets. They will often do the all the pot building for you.
