Travel Breaks for the Carbon Conscious Traveler
April 9th, 2009Thousands of snowboarders will soon be dusting down their ski trousers and scooting forth in search of the largest snow. And doubtless the results from your carbon footprint will be close to as far down the list of vacation to dos as a turkey sandwich after xmas. Merely last winter, a sluggish snow made the the tabloids and holidaymakers were panic struck about the flakes of snow melting almost as soon as they put down.
Skiing company Chalet 1802, located at the foot of Mount Blanc in Chamonix Mont Blanc in the French Alps, is one of the only independent businesses to go carbon neutral and give skiers an environmentally friendly option while organising their ski trip. Chalet 1802 founder ASHBY stated: Last winter was a bit of a shock with the hottest wintertime in fifty five yrs in Europe. Ski ski fields like Super Besse, La Clusaz and Superbagneres has difficulty. It was temperate and the snow didnt last so a lot of the early winter ski season in the mountains was uneven. We resolved to go carbon neutral to help preserve the snowboarding resort.
ASHBY said: We are not assaying to prescribe to guests but we consider it is valuable to grant them the alternative without increasing the cost of the holiday. When they book with us and goes to our skiing chalet they may further off-set their carbon output and we soak up the other costs. Of course we still have a sauna and a hot tub - people require luxuriousness but not at the expense of the environment, so we considered methods of reducing the results of someone traveling over here for a skiing holiday.”
Chalet 1802 have also partnered with group Climate Care, which tackles climate change by making carbon dioxide deductions for people and companies.
